Wonderland Healing Centre, Koh Phangan: Review

Wonderland Healing Centre, Koh Phangan: Review

The Wonderland Healing Centre is an investment in yourself, if you are looking for a health retreat in Thailand that has it all then this is the place to go.

Imagine this – you’re out of the way fully immersed in the jungles of Koh Phangan, next to a trickling river and swaying palms, you can relax by the stunning pool, take a dip in the cold plunge, sweat it out in the steam room, take one of the many incredible classes or fill up on some nourishing and super tasty food.

I have been to a few retreat centres and this is one of the nicest, they have a little bit of everything so you can ensure that there is something to suit everyone. From breathwork to yoga, female body workshops and meditations there will be something on the schedule to suit everyone.

Throughout this guide, I will fill you in on all the details of what Wonderland is really like, why you have to visit and help you plan your perfect stay.

My Experience at Wonderland Healing Centre

How to Book Wonderland Healing Centre

Booking to stay at Wonderland Healing Centre is very simple and can easily be done using Booking.com. You can follow the link below to check your preferred dates and book.

Just make sure you book at least 2/4 weeks ahead of time as the accommodation here is quite limited and gets booked up ahead of time very often, especially if you are looking to book a private room.

Accommodation Types

With only two room types on offer at Wonderland Healing Centre, it really comes down to your budget for where you choose to stay.

Wonderland is on the expensive side but this is due to what else is included in your room rate.

Shared Dorm

The cheaper option and perfect for those solo travelling is the 6-bed mixed dorms.

Each room is set out the same with 3 bunk beds in them, 1 toilet and 1 bathroom with a shower. There is air-conditioning, a hanging rail and a shelf for clothes and each bed has a private locker.

All rooms are also lockable and only guests in each room have access, adding that extra layer of security.

The dorms here are much more basic compared to some of the hostels I have stayed in elsewhere and don’t include features such as privacy curtains and personal lamps. Still, I think this is done cleverly as it encourages you to sleep earlier and spend more time outside either reading or chatting to other guests.

They also make up for it in other ways as the bedding is super comfy, the bed is soft and the rooms are always kept very clean.

At the time of writing, staying in a 6-bed mixed dorm at Wonderland costs around £54 per night in low season and £68 per night in high season, also bear in mind that Wonderland has a minimum 3-night stay — this ensures that guests get the most out of the retreat and can really soak up its benefits.

Private Rooms

The private rooms at Wonderland are wonderful and boast an extra large double bed, a balcony with hammock, private bathrooms, air-conditioning, a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and clothes storage.

These are much more expensive for a solo traveller but if you are a couple or a pair of friends then it can be more affordable.

There are 2 different options when booking a private room at Wonderland, some are located above the dorm rooms overlooking the river that runs alongside Wonderland and others are located near the pool and studios.

At the time of writing, the prices for the private rooms here vary between each room type with the cheapest being £110 & per night during the low and £135 per night in the high season. Whereas the other rooms are £146 per night during the low season and £190 per night during the high season. These rooms are also restricted to a minimum 3-night stay.

What’s Included in Your Stay

Although the prices at Wonderland may seem on the expensive side I think what you get for your money while you are here is second to none and all excellent quality.

Unlike some other Retreats, your ‘all-inclusive’ package starts from the moment you arrive on check-in day!

Vegan Buffet Food

All food at Wonderland is vegan and is complimentary during your stay including a large variety cold and hot drinks that you can help yourself to at all times.

If you require them there are some additional items you can buy throughout the day such as fresh coconuts, smoothies, juices and desserts.

The buffet food however is excellent, it is all prepared fresh and each day is varied — but if you time your meals right you will not need to buy anything additional.

Breakfast runs from 9 am to 11 am including fresh fruits, mueslis, chia pudding, banana pancakes, bread and a salad bar area which is there for every meal and includes a large variety of different freshly cut salad ingredients and veg as well as dressings such as tahini, vinaigrette, olive oil and more!

From 11 am to 1 pm, the buffet is then switched over to lunch, here they leave some of the breakfast items that are already on display and made fresh every day out and add additional items more suitable for lunch.

Dinner is then 6 pm – 8 pm and is based on a different cuisine every night, this is great to break it up as breakfast and lunch are quite similar.

Throughout the meal serving times, there is no limit to what you can take and how many times you can revisit meaning you can try a little bit of everything!

Best Time to Visit

Wonderland is a year-round retreat centre and with the Yoga Shalas all being inside it might not matter to you if it’s raining outside.

However, Koh Phangan has 4 main seasons cool and dry, hot and dry, hot and wet and monsoon season.

The high season on the island which is reflected in the room pricing here runs from December – April, this is when the weather is mostly hot and dry.

Whereas the low season in Koh Phangan runs from May – November, the weather gradually gets hotter and wetter with the monsoon season in August, September & October.

How to Get to Wonderland Healing Centre

Getting to Wonderland Healing Centre is simple from almost anywhere on the island.

If you are arriving at the pier from another island then hop in one of the many tuk-tuks that are here waiting.

🙋🏻‍♀️ Personally, I like to find scooter taxis, these usually cost the same amount and you can go as soon as you arrive giving you personal service! If you choose to go by tuk-tuk you will have to wait for the driver to fill it up and may have to drop other guests at their accommodations first.

Additionally, if you are coming from a different accommodation on the island the place you are staying will be able to help you book a taxi to Wonderland, just ask them to arrange a few days before or at check out.

💡 If you are staying in a Private Room then transport to and from the pier is included in your room rate so make sure to speak to reception about your time of arrival.

Final Thoughts

Although on the slightly pricier side I do truly believe that every penny you spend to stay here at Wonderland is worth it, it really is an investment in yourself and one you will not forget quickly.

During my three nights here in a 6-bed mixed dorm, I met so many lovely and likeminded people, I took some amazing Yoga classes, ate some delicious food, had a huge physical release during a breathwork session, attended an eye-opening female body workshop, had one of the best Thai massages ever and spent many hours reading by the pool!

I will definitely be returning when I’m next in Koh Phangan and taking all my friends with me.

Staying at Wonderland Healing Centre is a unique and powerful experience — it is one you must be ready for and one that is not to be missed for those willing to open up and see what awaits them on their personal development journey.

Okay the last time I was in Koh Phangan I got a second degree burn at a Full Moon Party, so I think that this healing centre is calling my name!
