Best Restaurants in Koh Samui: Guide for 2024

There are so many amazing foodie gems on the island and these are my top picks and best restaurants in Koh Samui fresh from my most recent visit earlier this year in 2024.

It’s no secret that Koh Samui, being one of the most built up and populated islands in the Gulf of Thailand, has no shortage of options when it comes to food, even after spending months on this incredible island I know I’d still only scratched the surface.

Throughout this guide, I will run you through all my favourite eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as some top places you cannot miss and my all-time favourite restaurant I believe in the whole of Thailand!

Guide to the Best Restaurants in Koh Samui

Malee Kitchen Downtown

Malee Kitchen is my number one restaurant in Koh Samui, we stumbled across this place by accident and have returned time and time again to try so many different things on the menu.

Malee is a little expensive compared to some Thai restaurants in Koh Samui, but it is well justified as the food is always to an incredible standard. Everything on their menu is fantastic but some of my favourites are the Thai red curry, Massaman curry, spring rolls, pork golden parcels and chicken & cashew nut.

Koh Kaew

If you are looking for true authentic home-cooked Thai food then this is the place to come, from the outside this little restaurant does not look like much but inside you are welcomed like one of the family.

The food quality and portion sizes are very good here and the prices are a lot lower than most around the island, Koh Kaew is my top spot for authentic Thai food that you know isn’t cooked in a particular way to appeal to tourists, here you are served up the recipes and food the family have been cooking for generations.

Kawin’s Kitchen

Another amazing Thai restaurant but one that is a little more tourist-friendly, here they offer a wide variety of dishes but can cook to suit your particular spice needs, as well as cater for vegans and vegetarians.

With a few restaurants dotted around the island here, you can find healthy brunches, lunches dinners as well as shakes and coffee.

The Jungle Club

A well-known and loved dining experience, this is one of the best things to do and most unique restaurants in Koh Samui, you can find the Jungle Club high up in the mountain overlooking Chaweng and the east coast of the island. Serving meals all day long from breakfast to dinner you can find everything on the menu from Thai dishes to Western choices.

Enjoy lounging on a beanbag in the sunshine taking in the views across the glistening turquoise ocean as you slowly sip your coconut and enjoy some lunch here!

Vikasa Life Cafe

Famously known across the world within the Yoga community for its Yoga classes and Yoga Teacher Training the Life Cafe here is also well worth shouting about. With its holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle, everything you can order here is bursting with flavour and nutrients. From super thick shakes, small plates perfect for sharing or big diverse salads there is something here for everybody.

Located on the cliff edge in the resort you can enjoy this wide variety of food that is all locally sourced whilst taking in the breathtaking views over the oceans and shoreline.

🙋🏻‍♀️ If you are looking for an amazing Yoga Retreat whilst in Koh Samui then make sure to check out the Vikations here, when you stay you not only have access to all the items on the Life Cafe menu (for additional cost) but there is brunch and dinner included in your package!

Greenlight Cafe

The menu here offers a wide variety of dishes for health-conscious travellers, both Thai-inspired and Western dishes are available here, as well as vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. Prioritising the use of local produce most of the ingredients here have been grown in Greenlights garden or sourced from local farmers around the island.

This chilled-out and relaxed cafe offers you the perfect spot to relax for a while, enjoy some good food and even lounge by the pool they have here. Greenlight is also well known for its Friday night Salsa parties! Beginners can have classes and learn the basic moves of salsa and bachata from 8 pm – 9 pm then from 9 pm – midnight it is one big salsa party!

Thai Restaurant – Spicy Thai 2017

Spicy Thai is not located in the best space on the side of the road in Fisherman’s Village but the food is well worth the not-so-pretty view, here authentic and super delicious Thai food awaits you!

Serving up all of your favourite traditional Thai dishes as well as yummy desserts and fresh fruit shakes there is something here for everyone and it is well-priced if you are looking for something a little cheaper in the expensive sea of restaurants located in Fisherman’s village.

K.O.B Cafe

One of my favourite spots on the island for breakfast, brunch or lunch! K.O.B cafe has a few spots located around the island and is consistent in serving up amazingly fresh, great-tasting dishes as well as fresh juices and yummy coffee.

You can either head to Chawengs K.O.B or for a more scenic meal head to Bophut or Lamai to get beautiful sea views whilst enjoying your meal. They also sell amazing fresh pastries and freshly cooked bread here!

La Fabrique – French Bakery

If you are looking for a real authentic French baguette or a more Western breakfast then this is the place to head to, the French Bakery has a few spots around the island and is well known for its yummy breakfasts but also its amazing freshly baked bread, pastries and cakes!

Make sure to stop off either to grab a baguette or pastry on the go or sit in and enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast with some of the finest imported French ingredients.

Due to its location in Chaweng main strip Duomo is a little on the expensive side but it’s well worth it for the authentic taste of Italy here. The food is incredible serving up all of your favourites from breads and olive oils, pizzas, pastas and more.

If you are missing variety in your dishes or want a break from all the amazing Thai restaurants in Koh Samui then Duomo is the best Italian to head to.

Prime Burger

Sometimes you just want a juicy burger and when you do Prime Burger is the place to come, serving up some of the best quality Australian beef here you can find a wide variety or burgers as well as sides, drinks and shakes.

Located on the edge of Fisherman’s village they have some seating inside the restaurant or this is the perfect place for a takeaway meal if you don’t feel like eating out.
